IV.     PRIORITY BUSINESS

Administrators’ Reports

The committee received a copy of the April 27, 2010 Principal’s Report.  Mrs. Helman briefly reviewed each topic covered in the written report.

Committee members were given a copy of the 2010-2012 Eastham Elementary School Improvement Plan.  They were asked to closely review the plan as it would be discussed and approved at the next meeting.  Dr. Hoffmann commended the members of the Improvement Plan committee.  Ms. Stevens, a member of the committee, said it was her second year working on the plan and they always find ways to add to it.

Dr. Hoffmann said he led a section of the Middle School faculty meeting today as they discussed work place environment, how each contributes, and to how recognize the great work that is being accomplished in our schools. He plans to hold several more meetings.  Chronicle, the television magazine, will be doing a little bit on Nauset High School focusing on the Haiti project.  He will let everyone know when it will be broadcast.  He is forming two task forces – one on bullying  with Ann Caretti and Tom Conrad - in order to get out in front of the pending legislation.  Plans are being made to survey the students.  Dr. Hoffmann will also meet with the four police chiefs on this topic.  The other task force is on wellness at the middle and high schools initially looking at school menus and what we serve.   He hopes to eventually expand it to the elementary schools.

FY10 Budget Update

Mr. Baumhauer reported that the FY10 budget looks good.  He will be bringing one more set of budget transfers to the committee.  There will be a line by line budget review on May 12th.

FY11 Budget Update

Dr. Hoffmann indicated that, due to a scheduling conflict, Gail Briere will be attending the Eastham Town Meeting.  The teachers will be meeting soon to discuss salary concessions.  They were wondering if they took a pay cut whether the savings could come back to their building.

Strategic Planning

The committee began discussions for creating long term goals and priorities, and how to include various stake holders.  It was suggested by Greg O’Brien of the Region Committee to form a subcommittee of all school committees.  However, Ms. Stevens thought it would be more productive to just have an elementary subcommittee initially.  She wondered if the school committee could

work with Sky Freyss-Cole over the summer and seek community input in the fall.  Mr. Fleming suggested having a table at Windmill Weekend to gather information.  Ms. Stevens said she would contact Ms. Freyss-Cole on behalf of the committee.
